P 2541 Dual Enrollment

MAC Pilot Program

The Central High School/Mineral Area College Pilot Program is a joint effort by both parties to provide high school seniors the opportunity to enroll in courses at Mineral Area College.  During the fall and spring semesters of their senior year, students may enroll for dual credit at a cost to the student of only one-third (1/3) of the regular tuition rate.  Please find below a list of the guidelines and regulations regarding this program:

  1. Students who wish to enroll in the Pilot Program must meet the following pre-requisites and/or conditions:
    1. Must be a senior
    2. Must have an ACT composite score of 22 or above; Compass score of 78 or above
    3. Must meet the ACT requirements or Compass score requirements for individual courses before being permitted to enroll in them
    4. Must enroll in 9 – 12 hours for fall/spring semester
    5. Must receive prior permission from the principal in order to enroll
    6. Must provide 1/3 of tuition cost (Central High School will provide 1/3 and Mineral Area College will waive 1/3 of the tuition cost)
  2. Other requirements:
    1. Central High School will provide textbooks at no cost to the student for those courses approved by Central.  Students who wish to enroll in courses other than those approved may do so but will responsible for the cost of textbooks and materials.
    2. Students will be expected to utilize free time while on the MAC campus to study and prepare for class.  MAC’s library facilities will be available for this purpose.
    3. Students will be required to take a minimum of 9 semester hours at MAC and be enrolled in three classes at Central.
    4. If a student misses three classes in any course he/she is enrolled in at MAC he/she will be required to drop all MAC classes and reenroll in classes at Central.  The student will be required to attend PASS to make up all assignments missed prior to enrolling in classes at Central.  The student will also be required to pay back the total cost of tuition and the cost of all textbooks.
    5. Students must maintain and receive a grade of C or better in every course he/she is taking at MAC or forfeit the tuition discount and cost of textbook.  Students will be required to reimburse Central High School for the tuition and textbook prior to graduation for every course that does not meet the grade requirement.
    6. Students must have written permission from the principal in order to drop any course once a student has been enrolled at MAC.  Failure to do so will require the student to pay back all tuition, textbook cost and/or other fees to Central High School for each course that is dropped without prior permission.
    7. Students who fail a class at MAC that is required for graduation will be required to make up the credit in summer school and not be allowed to walk at graduation.  A diploma will be issued to the student after the summer school session.

Dual Credit Program

Central High School students may also enroll in Mineral Area College’s Dual Credit Program.  Students who enroll will earn college credit and high school credit at the same time, and will do so on the high school campus.

To take a course for dual credit:

  1. Must be a junior or senior, at least 16 years old.
  2. Have the consent of parent or legal guardian to enroll.
  3. Must be recommended for enrollment by your high school principal or his/her designee.
  4. Must not have any holds on any MAC records you might have (Business Office/balance owed, library, etc.) If the holds are removed (balance paid, library books returned, library fines paid, etc.) and enrollment and current fees are submitted by the final enrollment date, you can enroll.

To take general education class for dual credit:

In addition to the requirements listed above for all classes, you must also meet the following requirements to enroll in a General Education class:

  1. You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or a 7.0 on an 11.0 scale.
  2. If you are a junior or senior and you have – during the semester of enrollment – taken an area of the MAP Test or comparable assessment that relates to the dual credit course(s) in which you wish to enroll, then you must score at a proficient level or above in the tested area.
  3. You must meet all prerequisites for the classes you enroll.
