Appeal

High school students who are denied credit under this Regulation are entitled to utilize the due process procedures available for student suspensions. These provisions are contained in Regulation 2662 - Suspension.

Students and their parents will be requested to fill out a waiver form and meet with the attendance officer and principal.  A hearing will take place upon a student’s request for a waiver and/or at the attendance officer’s request.  Any decision made by the attendance officer and principal may be appealed to the superintendent.  In cases where it has been determined that the student remains in violation of the attendance policy, the student will not receive credit.  All students who miss more than six days and/or six hours of a class, even with excuses, will be required to make up the days/hours in an after school credit recovery program, Saturday PASS or summer school. Students will receive an “I” or incomplete on the report card until the days/hours are made up. Failure to make up the days/hours before the end of summer school will result in a grade change from “I” to “F”.

These stipulations and procedures are applicable to individual course periods as well as full day absences. Students who are absent from an individual class period for more than six (6) days during a semester are in violation of the attendance policy in that individual class and risk losing academic credit for that course. Students who miss more than 15 days of a class will not be allowed to make up the class in a credit recovery program.

These stipulations and procedures are applicable to individual course periods as well as full day absences.  Students who are absent from an individual class period for more than six (6) days during a semester are in violation of the attendance policy in that individual class and risk  losing academic credit for that course.

Truancy is defined as:

1.   Absences from school without parental permission.
2.   Leaving school without following proper check-out procedures.  No student may leave campus
after arriving at school without first checking out through the attendance office.
3.   Absent from class without permission, but still remaining on campus.

Tardy Policy

Tardiness is disruptive to the learning process.  Students will be recorded tardy to class if they fail to meet the guidelines established by their individual teachers.  Upon receiving a fourth (4ᵗʰ) tardy for the semester, students will receive a verbal warning.  A fifth (5ᵗʰ)  tardy is considered a violation of the tardy policy and will result in three days of private dinning.  A  sixth (6ᵗʰ)  tardy will result in five days of private dinning.  A seventh (i¹¹)  tardy will result in 10 days of private dinning and loss of open campus privileges.  An eighth (8ᵗʰ)  tardy will result in an assignment to Saturday Detention and a mandatory parent meeting.  After a ninth (9ᵗʰ)  tardy the student will be assigned two Saturday Detention.  Tardies over nine (9) will result in ISS, OSS, or alternative school placement.  Jobs held by the student on Saturdays will not be
considered as an excuse for missing Saturday detention.

A.M. Tardy

An A.M. tardy is defined as a late arrival to school.  Students who arrive late to school in the morning will be charged with an A.M. tardy.  A.M. tardies are included in this policy and will not be treated as separate from a classroom tardy.
