P 4160 Support Staff Positions

The Board of Education recognizes the importance of having well qualified personnel in support staff positions to assure an efficient and effective educational program. All support staff positions in the school system will be established by the Board, and recommendations for employment will be presented to the Board for approval by the Superintendent.

The Superintendent is required to provide for the maintenance of up-to-date job descriptions covering all noncertificated support staff positions in the school system.

Term – Following a period of probationary employment of not less than thirty (30) nor more than ninety (90) days, noncontracted, noncertificated staff may reasonably expect continued employment until notified otherwise.

Compensation – Salary for all noncertificated positions shall be determined by the currently valid salary schedule for the job classification to which the employee is assigned. All support staff employees (noncertificated and certificated) employed during the summer months that perform comparable work shall be compensated at the same rate (Step 1 o n the Custodial Salary Schedule).

Probationary Employees – All noncertificated employees shall serve an initial probationary period of 30-90 days. At the end of this period an evaluation of the employee’s job performance will determine the status of continued employment. Probationary employees shall be placed on the lowest step of the noncertificated salary schedule.

Placement on the Classified Salary Schedules – Placement on the classified salary schedules will be commensurate with performance, qualifications and experience. Experience not to exceed vertical placement as stated in Regulation 4500.

Payment  of Scheduled Salary – Payment for services shall be made monthly beginning on the twentieth (20th) of the month following the first month’s services.

Overtime – Payment for additional time worked in excess of the regular schedule may be made at the currently prevailing overtime rate or compensatory time off may be granted at some other time.
