R 4710 Resignation: Certificated Staff

Certificated employees who for any reason intend to retire or resign at the end of the current school year are encouraged to indicate their plans in writing to the Board as early as possible.  Tenured teachers must notify the district no later than June 1.  Non-tenured, probationary, teachers should submit their contract or resignation within 15 days of receipt of the new contract; failure to do so may constitute a rejection of the board’s offer. Employees resigning from a position to take another position within the district are exempt from the fee assessed.

Letters of resignation shall be submitted to the Superintendent/designee and the principal/supervisor.  The letter should state reasons and an effective date for the resignation.

A certificated employee may petition the Superintendent to recommend a release from his/her contract for good cause or extremely unusual circumstance.  The Board of Education will consider each recommendation for resignation on an individual basis giving appropriate consideration to situations with good cause such as serious illness, transfer of spouse, and military service.  The availability of a satisfactory replacement will be considered before a certificated staff member is released from contract.  Should the Board of Education decline to recommend a release and the certificated employee leaves the District, the District reserves the right to pursue any and all legal options.
