R 4500 Certificated Staff

The following operational plan shall serve as implementing guidelines for the certificated staff salary schedule adopted by the Board of Education.

  1. Maintenance of the salary schedule is dependent on the local levy approvals and continued state financial support.

  1. Teachers are required to teach for the number of hours designated by the Board, and on the days shown on the school calendar adopted by the Board. Additional days for pupil attendance, various meetings and other days may be scheduled as part of the school term at the discretion of the Board.

  1. The certificated salary schedule does not apply to extended contract (over the approved school calendar).

  1. Compensation/Salary for all teaching positions shall be determined by the currently valid salary schedule which reflects training, years of service and may be pro-rated for part-time or extended employment.

      a. Effective with new certificated staff hired for the 2022-23 school year, vertical placement upon schedule will be as follows: Teachers who have no previous experience shall enter the schedule at the vertical step for one (1) year experience. Previous experience shall be credited at the rate of one (1) year of previous experience equaling one vertical step.  Thus, a teacher with one (1) year of experience would be placed on step two (2), two (2) years of experience on step three (3), step fifteen (15) would be placed on step sixteen (16) etc. on the salary schedule.

      b. Horizontal placement on Schedule-Graduate credit for placement on horizontal channels of the salary schedule shall be earned from an accredited college or university and should be applicable toward a Master or Specialists Degree. Graduate credit not applicable toward an advanced degree must be approved in view of its relativity to the specific professional assignment. Graduate credit must be documented by official transcripts on or before September 10, of any year.

      c. Horizontal placement on the salary schedule with undergraduate credits may be pre-approved for its relativity to a specific professional assignment that is newly formed from a state and/or federal mandate. Credits must be documented by official transcripts on or before September 10, of any year.

      d. Payment of Scheduled Salary-Payment for services rendered under applicable contracts shall be made in twelve (12) equal payments beginning on the 20th of the month following the first month’s services. Additional compensation for extended employment shall be computed by dividing the total scheduled amount by the standard number of contract days, multiplying by the additional contract days and adding to the scheduled amount.

  1. Hours earned by teachers moved from one level to another must have prior approval by the Administration.
