R 4320.1 Personal Business Leave

Paid personal business leave days may only be used for personal business that cannot be transacted in non-work hours. Personal days cannot be used to work stoppages, vacation or recreational use. Staff members desiring to use personal days must schedule a request to the building principal. The Superintendent or his designee has the right to deny any request for personal business leave that does not conform to the policy or would cause a hardship to students or staff.

  1. Each certificated staff member will be entitled to a designated number of days for Personal Business Leave.
    1. Employed in the district for 1-2 years, the individual is entitled to two (2) personal business leave days per year.
    2. Employed in the district for 3-5 years, the individual is entitled to four (4) personal business leave days per year.
    3. Employed in the district for 6+ years, the individual is entitled to five (5) personal business leave days per year.
  2. All personal business leave days are deducted from the allotted sick leave for the present year.
  3. Personal business leave is cumulative to five (5) leave days.
  4. Absences may be charged against personal leave for the following reasons:
    1. Tax investigation.
    2. Court subpoena. (NON-school related cases)
    3. Wedding, graduation or funeral for a member of the immediate family. **
    4. Observance of a religious holiday which is normally observed by persons of the employee's faith. Additional unpaid leave shall be granted for this purpose if reasonably necessary.
    5. Conduct of business of such a nature that it cannot be performed on a Saturday, Sunday, or before or after school hours.
  5. The employee is entitled to use two (2) personal business days per teaching year at their own discretion as long as such personal leave request has been requested and approved by the Administration at least Forty-eight (48) hours in advance of its use.
  6. Leave will NOT be granted to an employee due to adverse weather conditions. Personal leave should not be used for other employment for which remuneration is received.
  7. Whenever possible, it is expected that requests for leave will be made in writing to the designated administrator at least Forty-eight (48) hours in advance of the time leave is requested.
  8. No more than two (2) consecutive Personal Business Leave days may be approved in a two (2) week period.
  9. The following days MAY NOT be used for Personal Business Leave unless in the opinion of the superintendent or his designated representative extenuating circumstances exist:
    1. Teachers Meeting/Orientation (Beginning of School)
    2. Districts Teachers Meeting
    3. Teacher Workdays/Parent Conferences (Periods at the end of each quarter.)
    4. Teacher In-service Days.
    5. Days prior to vacations.
    6. Last two weeks of school.
    7. First day of school.
    8. Last day of school.
