P 2560 Extended Learning Opportunities

The Board of Education authorizes the administration to allow Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO) beginning in the 2017-18 school year to meet the diverse instructional needs of students with varying talents and interests.  ELO’s will be aligned with the educational goals and objectives of the high school instructional program.

It is the desire of the Board of Education to provide students with opportunities to improve student achievement and to make these opportunities available outside of the regular classroom and regular school day.  The purpose of the ELO is to motivate students to explore career opportunities that otherwise would not be available through the traditional high school curriculum.

An ELO will provide an opportunity for students to gain high school credit outside of the traditional classroom setting.  These opportunities can include internships, community service and work study.

The Board of Education directs the superintendent to establish procedures for implementing this policy which will include:

Unless otherwise recommended by the superintendent and approved by the Board of Education, students or their parents/guardians shall be responsible for all related expenses including, but not limited to transportation, clothing, safety equipment, etc.  The school will be responsible for any expenses that qualify the student to receive credit while participating in an ELO.
