I. Buy-Back of Unused Paid Time Off (PTO) Days and Sick Leave Bank Days Upon Leaving the District
Employees covered by the buy-back of unused PTO/sick leave bank days when leaving the district will be paid for unused days as authorized in appropriate board policies. The following rates will apply to the set pay as established by the board of education on an annual basis:
|
Years of Service with the District |
Percentage of “Set” Pay |
|
One through three years |
Not eligible |
|
Four through eight years |
65 percent of set pay rate |
|
Nine through 15 years |
80 percent of set pay rate |
|
16 or more years |
100 percent of set pay rate |
The “set pay” shall be 22 percent of the beginning daily salary for the qualifying non-classified position rounded to the nearest whole dollar. (Example: an employee qualifying for buy-back is leaving after ten years of service, has accumulated 30 unused days, and the beginning salary for this position for the school year was $7 per hour for 7.5 hours. The buy-back would be: 7 X 7.5 X 0.22 X 0.80 X 30 = $277.20 = $277.00).
II. Buy-Back of Unused PTO Days at the End of the School Year
Employees who qualify under appropriate policies and have accumulated the maximum number of sick leave bank days (75) authorized for their position, may be paid for those days they accumulate over the number authorized, not to exceed a maximum number of PTO days granted for one year. The board of education will set the rate that will be paid for these days.
Buy-back rate shall be 30 percent of the beginning daily salary (less benefits) for the qualifying non-classified position rounded to the nearest whole dollar.
(Example: An employee has accumulated the maximum number of sick leave bank days (75) authorized for the position at the beginning of the year. During the year, the employee uses only three of the ten PTO days authorized per year. If the daily pay is $7 per hour for 7.5 hours per day, at the end of the year the employee would be eligible for 7 X 7.5 X 7 X 0.35 = $128.63 = $129).
If ten or more consecutive days of school are missed due to unforeseen circumstances, the buy-back rate shall be 20 percent of the beginning daily salary (less benefits) for the qualifying non-classified position rounded to the nearest whole dollar.
