High School Graduation is the culmination of the efforts of District students, parents and staff. It is a celebration of achievement, and participation in the ceremony is an honor, not a privilege.
An important part of the ceremony is the commencement speech. The selection of the commencement speaker will involve District seniors, staff and the Board of Education. Seniors will vote for whom they would like to deliver the address. The top three names, in rank order, will be given to the Board of Education. The Board will then, with input from the senior class teachers and the administration, select among the three student nominees. If the Board’s first choice is unavailable, their second choice will be invited. Should the second choice be unavailable, the Board will unilaterally select a commencement speaker.
