P 4710 Resignation: Certificated Staff

Certificated employees who for any reason intend to retire or resign at the end of the current school year are encouraged to indicate their plans in writing to the Otterville R-VI Board of Education as early as possible, but no later than June 1.

Resignations to become effective during the school year require a release by the Board and must be considered on an individual basis. Letters of resignation shall be submitted to the Superintendent/designee and the principal/supervisor. The letter should state reasons and an effective date for the resignation.

Resignations and release of teachers and staff members will be accepted when the Board of Education feels there are existing emergency circumstances beyond the individuals control which would justify the resignation or release. Once a contract is signed for the upcoming school year, certificated staff wanting a release from his/her contractual agreement may be granted a release, with Board approval, upon paying the following penalty:

$500 May 1-May 31 (non-tenured teachers)
$1,000 June 1-June 30
$2,000 July 1- July 31
$3,000 After August 1

Employees utilizing school insurance will be assessed an additional $900 for resignations after June 1st.

Payment shall be in full at the time of release. Should the Superintendent decline to recommend a release and the certificated employee leaves the district, the district reserves the right to pursue any and all legal options available to it.

Certificated employees upon leaving the district, each employee will be compensated $25.00 per day for all accumulated unused sick leave. Employees who resign after June 1st or break their contract during the course of the school year will forfeit the $25 dollar per day benefit.
