
The discipline code set out in this regulation is intended to be illustrative but not an exclusive listing of acts of misconduct and the consequences for each. Misconduct which is not specifically listed in this regulation may be deemed to warrant discipline up to and including expulsion following provision of all due process procedures. In addition, the disciplinary consequence listed for each offense may be increased or decreased by the Administration or the Board of Education due to mitigating or aggravating circumstances.
Copies of this regulation or the student handbook which includes the code of student conduct and disciplinary consequences, as well as the District's corporal punishment policy, if any, will be provided to each student at the beginning of each school year. Copies of these documents will also be available for public inspection during normal business hours in the Superintendent's office.
Alcohol - Possession of or presence under the influence of alcohol regardless of whether the student is on school premises
First Offense: 10 Days OSS
Subsequent Offenses: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension hearing, Juvenile Officer Referral
Arson - Intentionally causing or attempting to cause a fire or explosion
First Offense: 10 Days OSS. Restitution if appropriate
Subsequent Offenses: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension hearing. Juvenile Officer Referral, Restitution if appropriate
Assault - (Refer to Policy and Regulation 2673 - Reporting of Violent Behavior)
Assault of a Student or Staff Member - Use of physical force with the intent to do bodily harm.
First Offense: 5 Days OSS, 1 Day ISS, Safety Plan, Juvenile Officer referral
Subsequent Offenses: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension hearing, Juvenile Officer referral, or Expulsion.
Bullying – Intentional intimidation or infliction of physical, emotional, or mental harm (see Policy 2655).
First Offense: 3 Days of ISS
Subsequent Offenses: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension hearing, or Expulsion
Cell Phone- Student is using a cell phone at any time other than in the cafeteria during lunch.
First Offense: Student pickup in office
Subsequent Offenses: Parent pickup; cell phone checked into office daily
Defiance of Authority - Refusal to obey directions or defiance of staff authority
First Offense: 1 Day ISS
Subsequent Offenses: More than 3 Offenses move to incorrigible behavior
Disruptive Behavior - Conduct which has the intentional effect of disturbing education or the safe transportation of a student
First Offense: Warning
Subsequent Offenses: More than 3 offenses, move to Defiance
Possession or presence under the influence of a controlled substance or substance represented to be a controlled substance while at school, on the school playground, on the school parking lot, a school bus or at a school activity whether on or off of school property.
First Offense: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension
Subsequent Offenses:10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension, Referral to Juvenile Officer, or Expulsion
Sale of a controlled substance or substance represented to be a controlled substance while at school or at any of the locations described above.
First Offense: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension
Subsequent Offenses:10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension, Referral to Juvenile Officer, or Expulsion
Extortion - Verbal threats or physical conduct designed to obtain money or other valuables
First Offense: 1 Workshop

Failure to Serve Workshop (Detention)- Student is present at school and does not attend an assigned workshop.
First Offense: Reschedule workshop
Subsequent Offenses: 1 Day ISS; additional day of ISS for each subsequent offense
Firearms and Weapons (Refer to Policy and Regulation 2620 - Firearms and Weapons in School)
Possession of a firearm or weapon-
First Offense: 10 Days OSS, referral for long term suspension, referral to Juvenile Officer
Subsequent Offenses: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension, referral to Juvenile Officer, or Expulsion
Fighting - Physically striking another during mutual physical contact, as distinguished from an assault.
First Offense: 3 Days OSS, 1 Day ISS; Juvenile Officer Referral
Subsequent Offenses: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension; Juvenile Office Referral
Harassment - Harassment or discrimination prohibited by Policy 1300 or Regulation 1300, including antisemitic harassment or discrimination. Policy 1300 and Regulation 1300 govern the definition and application of antisemitism. Antisemitic harassment or discrimination is subject to the same disciplinary consequences as comparable race-based harassment or discrimination.
First Offense: 3 Days OSS, 1 Day ISS
Subsequent Offenses: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension
Improper Display of Affection - Consensual kissing, fondling, or embracing
First Offense: Warning
Subsequent Offenses: Workshop, ISS, or up to 10 Days OSS
Threatening Language- Use of verbal, physical or written threats to do bodily harm to person or personal property.
First Offense: 3 Days ISS
Subsequent Offenses: 5-10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension
Use of Obscene or Vulgar Language- Language that depicts sexual acts, human waste, or blasphemous language
First Offense: 1 Workshop
Subsequent Offenses: 5-10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension
Disruptive or Demeaning Language or Conduct - Use of hate language to demean another person because of race, gender, disability, national origin, or religious beliefs. This provision also includes conductor verbal, written, or symbolic speech that materially and substantially disrupts class, school activities, transportation, or school functions.
First Offense: 1 Day ISS
Subsequent Offenses: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension, or Expulsion
Inappropriate Sexual Conduct- Physical touching of another student in the area of the breasts, buttocks, or genitals
First Offense: 5 Days ISS

Use of sexually intimidating language, objects, or pictures.
First Offense: 1 Day ISS
Subsequent Offenses: 1 Day OSS for each subsequent offense
Indecent Exposure - Display of breasts, buttocks, and genitals in a public location
First Offense: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension, referral to Juvenile Officer
Subsequent Offenses: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension, referral to Juvenile Officer, or Expulsion
Incorrigible Behavior - bad actions or habits that cannot be corrected, reformed, or changed despite discipline from staff authority
First Offense: 1 Day OSS, 1 Day ISS
Subsequent Offenses: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension
Minor Behavior- Reported as documentation only for minor classroom disruptions.
First Offense: On 3rd minor behavior documented, 1 Workshop
Subsequent Offense: 1 Day ISS; additional day of ISS for each subsequent offense
Out of Area- Student is in the hallways without a pass; student is not in the location indicated on the pass; student leaves class without permission.
First Offense: 1 Workshop
Subsequent Offenses: 2 Workshops; 1 Day ISS; 3 Days ISS
Physical Misconduct- Students horseplaying; putting hands on each other; shoving match.
First Offense: 1 Day ISS
Subsequent Offenses: 3 Days ISS; 5 Days ISS; 1 Day OSS for each subsequent offense with a safety plan put in place
Possession- A prescription medication without a valid prescription for such medication on school premises or on a school bus.
First Offense: Confiscation of medication; 1 Day ISS
Subsequent Offenses: Confiscation of medication; 1 Day OSS each subsequent offense
Distribution- Prescription medication to any individual who does not have a valid prescription for such medication on school premises or on a school bus.
First Offense: 3 Days OSS
Subsequent Offenses: 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension, or Expulsion
Posting or Sharing Video of a School Fight- Taking a video of a fight at school and sharing it on social media or emailing/messaging the video to other students.
First Offense: 3 Days OSS, 1 Day ISS
Subsequent Offenses: 5 Days OSS, 1 Day ISS; 10 Days OSS with referral for long-term suspension hearing
Tardies- Tardies are counted per day and start over each semester.
4th tardy: 1 Workshop
5th tardy: 1 Workshop;
6th tardy: 1 Day ISS;
7th and subsequent tardies: 1 Day ISS for each tardy
Technology Violation- Using the school-issued device other than for intended educational use; playing games; messaging other students.
First Offense: Device stays at school and is checked in and out of the office at the beginning and end of each day for 3 days.
Subsequent Offenses: Device stays at school for 5 days; then indefinitely; loss of use of device at school and home indefinitely
Technology Violation: Obscene/Pornographic Material Accessing, manufacturing, or sharing lewd or indecent material.
First Offense: Loss of school-issued device if shared via school account; 3 days ISS
Subsequent Offenses: 5–10 days OSS with possible referral for long-term suspension hearing and possible Juvenile Officer referral
Theft - Nonconsensual taking or attempt to take the property of another
First Offense: 1 Workshop or 1 Day ISS
Subsequent Offenses: Up to 10 Days OSS, Referral for long term suspension, referral to Juvenile Officer, or Expulsion
Tobacco - Possession or use of tobacco or tobacco products
First Offense: Confiscation of product, 1 Day ISS
Subsequent Offenses:1 Day OSS for each subsequent offense
Truancy - Being absent or tardy from class or classes without authorization (See also Policy and Regulation 2340 - Truancy and Educational Neglect.)
First Offense: 1 Day ISS
Subsequent Offenses: 5 Days ISS for each subsequent offense, referral to Juvenile Officer
Vandalism - Intentional damage or attempt to damage property belonging to the staff, students, or the District
First Offense: 1 Workshop and Restorative Justice
Subsequent Offenses: 10 Days OSS, Restorative Justice, Referral for long term suspension, referral to Juvenile Officer, Restitution if appropriate or Expulsion
Video and Photography- Taking pictures in class; videoing students at school; recording fights.
First Offense: 1 Day ISS
Subsequent Offenses: 3 Days ISS; 5 Days ISS; OSS for each subsequent offense
